Belgrade Land Development Public Agency serves as a fund for infrastructure and building land. With a number of changes in name and strategy, this fundamental function has existed for 50 years, from the times of centralized economy run by the state to present-day market economy.
Stressing professionalism and expertise, the Agency is gearing up to adhere to free market principles in integrating all the infrastructural sectors in preparing concepts, planning, building and exploitation, in line with a transparent account policy and just distribution among all users.
In the mid-20th century priority was given to the draining of some 20 sq. kilometers of swamps and the construction of New Belgrade, with a planned population of over 300 000, and connecting it with bridges to the old part of the capital. During that period, Belgrade was well ahead of other European metropolises for investing heavily in infrastructure.
Today's priorities are the geographic information system, the construction of the light rail transit, the inner semi ring road and of the external main bypass. The infrastructural development shall open numerous opportunities for investing in the development of the area within the new transportation corridor.
