Belgrade is the capital of the Republic of Serbia, lying at the confluence of two rivers - the Sava and the Danube, occupying the central position in Southeast Europe. It has a strategic position at the intersection of the pan-European corridors No. 10 and No. 7, representing the main communication and logistic hub in the region, an important market with nearly 2 million inhabitants and a large industrial, commercial, tourist, cultural, educational and political center.

Investing in Belgrade entails a special advantage related to the strategic positioning on the markets of Europe, Asia and the Near East and the access to the Duty Free-regime free trade zones in Southeast Europe, with 60 million consumers. Serbia is the only non-CIS country that signed a free trade agreement with the Russian Federation, representing a market of 150 million people. Since it is still not an EU member, it offers major flexibility and investment advantages. Over the past few years, foreign trade and foreign investment regulations have been greatly simplified, company registration procedures are simple and swift, and the administration has been made much more efficient.

Serbia and Montenegro the Top Reformer
"In 2004, Serbia and Montenegro led in making the kinds of reforms that can spur growth in firms and jobs, improving in 8 of the 10 areas studied by Doing Business (see table below). The capital requirement for starting a new business was cut from 5,000 euros to 500. The time to start a new business was reduced from 51 days to 15. A new labor law made it easier to hire workers by allowing firms to offer term contracts rather than having to hire under indefinite contracts even when addressing temporary needs. The time to resolve commercial disputes fell from 1,028 days to 635, thanks to a new code of civil procedure. Payroll and sales tax were replaced by a value-added tax, which is easier to collect. The number of new registered (formal) firms in 2004 jumped by 42% over the previous year. All indicators for Serbia and Montenegro in comparison with all economies, attached."
