The Pedestrian-Bicycle Bridge Project is a priority city project, derived from the globally adopted “Sustainable Development Objectives” and the strategic commitment of the City of Belgrade defined in the “City of Belgrade Development Strategy”, “Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan” and “Identity_Mobility_Environment Project”, which emphasize sustainable urban mobility through innovative and sustainable transport system planning, aiming at accessibility, traffic safety, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, increasing traffic attractiveness, quality of life and environmental protection.
In the course of Plan development, cooperation with associations of citizens living in the nearby blocks, cycling and other associations was achieved aiming at plan development procedure clarification and consideration of their needs and demands.
The planning document is the basis for pedestrian-bicycle bridge implementation between New Belgrade and Ada Ciganlija in a way that fits into the space protecting natural and spatial values.
The pedestrian-bicycle bridge would significantly increase pedestrian-bicycle activities and the quality of city life. On the other hand, it would possibly reduce car share in the commuters’ “to and fro” work mobility, whereby promoting bicycle transport among employees, the congestion caused by car traffic, SO2 emission and the level of pollution could be significantly reduced.
